Lime Rock Park will host a Community Day on Tuesday, May 23, where fans will have the opportunity to experience a hot lap of the world famous 1.53-mile road course in a race car.
The Community Day activities will be centered around Media Day for the Rolex GT Series Challenge, which will be held at Lime Rock on May 26-29. The public is invited to attend the press conference and mingle with series officials and some of the drivers who will be racing at Lime Rock on Memorial Day weekend.
After the press conference, fans can choose to take a ‘Lap of Lime Rock’ or a van tour of the facility. Many of the hot lap rides will be given by drivers in the racing machines that they’ll be competing in at the Rolex GT Series Challenge.
Once the rides are over, the public is invited to stay for the race teams’ Test Day. Among the drivers expected to take part in Test Day is Academy Award-winning actor and Lime Rock favorite Paul Newman. Fans can also walk the paddock area and get a close-up look at the race cars and talk to the drivers.
Or fans can watch the Karting Challenge to benefit Special Olympics CT on the autocross course. Lime Rock has supported and hosted the Karting Challenge, where teams compete in go-karts to raise money for Special Olympics CT, for the past four years.
“This is a special time at Lime Rock Park and now, even more than ever before, we want to share what Lime Rock is about with the community, the people who live around the track and the fans who support us and sustain us,” Lime Rock Park Chief Marketing Officer Maria Jannace said. “Next year we will be celebrating our 50th Anniversary and Lime Rock is embarking on a Renaissance, a new beginning that will elevate the track to a new level.
“We feel Community Day is a great opportunity for our neighbors and fans to experience something extraordinary – a chance to get a ride in a real race car – and at the same time hopefully they’ll learn something about Lime Rock; that we’re more than just a race track. That we care about the community; that it is important to us, and an important part of who we are.”
The Media Day press conference, which will be held adjacent to the Infield Chalet, is scheduled to begin at approximately 10:30 a.m. Hot lap rides will start at noon and run until 1 p.m. followed by Test Day for the Rolex GT Series Challenge. Participants in the hot lap rides must be at least 18 years old, show a picture ID and wear closed toe shoes and long pants.
Please RSVP to info@limerock.com with your name, address and telephone number.
Fans who would like to attend Community Day on Tuesday, May 23, should go to the Main Entrance at Lime Rock Park off of Route 112 in Lakeville.
