Some of the best Sports Car Club of America Club racers in the Northeast will settle a season-long debate over who takes home the championship laurels in the North Atlantic Road Racing Championship (NARRC) Runoffs.
The NARRC Runoffs, which are hosted by the New York Region of the Sports Car Club of America, will once again be held at Lime Rock Park on Oct 22. The Runoffs will be held rain or shine.
The Runoffs are the most prestigious championship for Regional competitors and are the culmination of a long journey for drivers in more than 30 classes. It is the 12th event in a championship that began in April and takes these SCCA Club racers to three of the premier tracks in the Northeast – Pocono International Raceway, New Hampshire International Speedway and Lime Rock.
The NARRC points system puts a premium on performance, persistence, and consistency. A driver must finish in the top 10 to earn points and bonus points are awarded for each start and for accumulating starts at all three tracks. Only a driver’s best eight finishes in the 11 races leading into the Runoffs are counted toward the NARRC championship.
On Saturday, Oct. 22, SCCA competitors will come to Lime Rock from throughout the Northeast. From New England, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and from far away as Virginia. More than 200 strong, in classes ranging from seriously fast open-wheel Formula Atlantic and Formula Continental race cars to high-powered production GT1 machines, the amateur version of Trans-Am racing.
Double points, prize money (which generally isn’t available to these amateur Club racers) and a place in the storied history of the North Atlantic Road Racing Championships are all up from grabs at Lime Rock Park.
The tentative schedule calls for warm ups to begin at 9 a.m. These 10-minute sessions will begin with closed-wheel cars because the first four races are all for closed-wheel classes. Sessions for open-wheel cars will follow the closed-wheel cars.
The first race is likely to begin at approximately 10:30 a.m. After Race 3 there will be a lunch break of about one hour and the remainder of the races will be held in the afternoon.
The race groups are broken down as follows:
Race 1 - ITS and SPU
Race 2 - Spec Miata
Race 3 - ITA and ITC
Race 4 - GT1-2-3, A Sedan, Touring 1 and 2, SPO, ITE
Race 5 - Spec Racer Ford (SRF)
Race 6 - Showroom Stock Miata, SSB and SSC
Race 7 - NARRC Club Ford (NCF), FVee, F500
Race 8 - ITB, GTL, E-F-G-H Production
Race 9 - FA, FC, FF, CFC, CSR, DSR, S2, FM, FSCCA
Tickets for the NARRC Runoffs are only S15. Parking is free and you get a free entry list to follow along with the action.
Come out on Oct. 22 and see the best amateur drivers in the Northeast contend for one of the most prestigious championships in SCCA racing at Lime Rock Park.
