The Vintage Sports Car Club of America is making an exception for a special occasion during their Fall Finale at Lime Rock Park on Oct. 7-8.
The VSCCA is opening up its event to all model MGs – from all vintage racing organizations – in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the MGA. The invitation to non-VSCCA members is only being extended to MG racers and drivers must be a member of a recognized vintage racing organization.
VSCCA Event Chairman Andrew Hiller is expecting between 70 and 100 MGs in what should be the largest field of MGs ever at Lime Rock. Sunoco Paddock will also be reserved exclusively for street MGs.
On Friday at noon, a group photo of all MG race drivers will be taken, and several historic MGs are expected to be in attendance.
Dave Ash, who raced MGs at Sebring in the 1950s, will be the weekend’s honored guest. The North American MGA Register (NAMGAR) will present a special award to some lucky MGA racer at the event. Tim Coyne, NAMGAR’s national chairman, will present the award at Friday night's VSCCA dinner.
The MGA was launched in September 1955 and was the first all-new sports car from MG since 1936. The MGA was the beginning of a new chapter for MG and a successful one at that; over 100,000 were sold before production ceased in 1962.
The MGs will only compliment the many other wonderful VSCCA vintage cars which will be there racing in the regular classes.
